Is there a DVD recorder with hard disk that you can transfer video from the hard disk to the PC without having to burn a DVD?

The Liteon 5045 used the fat32 file system. Files could be transfered from the hard drive to a PC. Here's a link that briefly discusses it:

You might want to check out the LG LRM-519 as well. "Next" may have some experience with this unit. Here is link to the manufacturer's description and the manual.

Transferring to the PC is described in the manual on page 65. -
The LG LRM-519 was really not a machine I liked. It was not very user-friendly.

I still have the LG-519. It's in the box and I should give it another look. Based on a very brief test I can remember the following. It's been 7 or 8 months so my memory may fail me a bit.
Pros:
The guide feature is very well done. It populates in minutes via an Ethernet connection versus days for TVGOS to populate. The IR blaster was excellent. Essentially no delay when changing channels on an HD digital cable box via the ir blaster. The guide is free for life and because it can control cable STBs and satellite STBs and also gets populated via an internet connection it is more futureproof (as opposed to an analog OTA TVGOS feed).
You can in fact move recordings to a PC via the Ethernet connection.
Cons:
PQ on recordings was average at best. I'm not sure if I had an optimum setup cable wise but I have seen better.
No editing on the machine itself. Meaning no editing of commercials etc.
Lordsmurf is right it has a rather odd user interface. Very Microsoft like. The machine was built around the Microsoft online guide in an attempt to take on Tivo. As a result it is more a PVR with a DVD burner than a DVD recorder with an Ethernet connection.
But all in all not too bad. -
I liked my LG-519, but ever since I switched to DirectTV I cannot get the device to control the D11 receiver. It previously worked great with Time Warner because I did not have a receiver. With Time Warner the 519 connected directly to the coax line and then to the TV. None of the conrol codes work for the D11 DirectTV receiver.
