I have a mpg video that's 8:30 mins, the movie info from Quicktime Pro
    says Format is MPEG1 Muxed 320 x 240
    Data size 84.8 MB
    Data Rate 1399.11 kbits/sec
    File size 320 x 240

I want to reduce the size to no larger than 34 MB
I want to set up my public folder on my iDisk (i only have a 60 day trial)
so i want to put it thru the paces and see if it's worth it or just buy space on
    another server

I have tried several methods. the best i could do is use MPEG Streamclip and reduced it to a 288 x 204 mpv with a Data rate of 622 kbits/sec.
The result the file size is 37:42 MB
I could reduce the file more but file size will be to small

What should i use to keep it as close to the original size, and yes i know i will lose some quality, it will only be played on the computer.

    Thanks

Try reducing the frame rate to 15 or 10 fps.

If you transcode to h.264, you will certainly achieve your desired filesize while maintaining reasonable image quality and dimensions. A bitrate of 300kb/s would be fine for a 320x240 image size. MPEG Streamclip is the best tool for this nowadays with with the x264 version of h.264 installed. If you're committed to mpeg1, then ffmpegX does a pretty good job of encoding very low bitrate mpeg files, although the quality doesn't match h.264.
