  1. I'm so angry - I paid for and downloaded a song from Rhino.com, and it came with DRM. But when I try to play it I get a message saying the license is no longer available. BUT I PAID FOR IT!!!

I sent an email to Rhino, but they're closed until Monday of course - and I need the song tonight.

Is there any way I can play it??

    DRM really sucks.

  4. If your song has Windows Media DRM: there is a program called FairUse4WM which can remove the DRM. Unfortunately, you need a valid key to remove the DRM so that won't help you now. Something to consider in the future though. Of just download a copy via P2P -- you already have a license!

If you have another purchased song from another company it might work. I know I was able to use fairuse to decrypt a purchased episode from amazon unbox becuase it had a valid key from a purchased yahoo music song. Don't ask me why it worked but it did. It just needs a valid key from a purchased drm file to work on another purchased file on your system. I think it is interchangeable so you probably will be able to use it - again on your purchased media files.

  6. I was hoping to avoid paying for the song twice. I tried FairUse, but this is the first DRM song I've downloaded - never again!

Nothing on the Bummer site helped, either - there's no problem on my end.

    What a pain.

    Mark

    P.S. I can't find it on any P2P sites.

I'm not sure this is possible with a system DRM equiped, but worse case, next time,
just do a backup via system recorder.

If you have any of the Sound Blaster cards they all come with a "recorder" utility
that records anything coming out to the speaker. Its as good as the live audio
being heard and is recorded to WAV file. The recorded audio is indistinguishable
because it is not being compressed or codesized.

Otherwise, thre is also the once popular, "easyrecorder" that does the same thing
    as the Sound Blasters do.

  8. Couldn't do a backup because I was never able to play the file. I got the license error the first time I tried to play it.

Is the file on the same computer you used when you bought it? The license is most likely tied to the one computer.

  10. Yep, on the same computer. Was never able to play the song, even once.
