  1. 1) i got Vista yesterday and i can't seem to get Media Player 11 to play DVD's. It came pre-installed with Power DVD and when i manually or automatically try playing DVD's on Media Player,it opens, closes, then auto opens Power DVD right away. Media Player will play mpegs and other video files fine and it'll aso play Music CD's fine as well. any ideas?

2)I downloaded Shrink and Decrypter and i copied files to my hard drive but neither ImgBurn or Shrink can create an .iso. I tried installing Winzip and Winrar but neither one seems to handle it,even though i associated .iso with them. Any ideas?

please post as quick as possible.

    1. don't use it.
why would you want to use wmp for dvd when you've got powerdvd?

    2. imgburn can create an iso. magiciso can create an iso.
winrar can extract from an iso.
What are you trying to do?

  3. well when i run Decrypter,it copies the files fine. but when i go to shrink it does a quick check, then when i select "create .iso and burn with DVD Decrypter" it says "access Denied" winrar is associated with .iso so it should work. Please help

can't say the pictures were particularly helpful.

    Nothing wrong with the apps.

    Sounds like Vista crap,
    write protection
    (maybe search administrator full access)

I'm not familiar with Vista, nor want to be.

  7. well if you click them you get a better look. It did work after ejecting the blank disc then restart, but it only seemed to see img burn. I selected in auto play to burn using ,iso and it worked but it's not gonna work if i have a 5 or 6 gig DVD because i'll need to shrink it. unless you have a better idea. then when i finished burning i was able to delete the Video_TS,but the .iso wasn't in my PC at all so i hope it deleted on it's own. Otherwise it;ll take up too much space. on the topic earlier about Power DVD,it's not the best Quality. Looks kinda pixely at times. Media Player was perfect. But i guess i can live with it. If you find an answer to the DVD Shrink problem, let me know. Thanks.

    I did

I think it's all vista related.

    wmp

You don't seem to have write access.
You were trying to save to the root path yes?
    Can you write anything there?
    Tried a different folder?

    I don't know vista.
    Try searching administrator full access
    search write access.
search taking ownership of a folder, user accounts.

    I really don't know

It sounds like whom ever configured the computer set Power DVD as the default DVD player. If so, go to 'Control Panel>(Click Classic View)>Default Programs>Change autoPlay Settings.' You should see 'DVD Movie' there. Change the default to 'Play DVD movie using Windows Media Player'. It's probably set for Power DVD. You can also go to 'Associate a file type...' and change other formats to WMP if wanted. I had a hard time changing it from WMP.

Now try inserting a DVD and WMP should automatically play the DVD.

I have had no problems with Shrink, DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn or quite a few other programs with Vista. When you run one of those programs, try right clicking on it and 'Run as administrator.'

If that doesn't help, either the location of the file is wrong or you need to look into permissions a little more. You should be logged in as Administrator. You can check that in 'Control Panel>User Accounts'.

Imgburn works fine under Vista, as does Decrypter.

  11. ok i'll try that from now on on the "run as administrator" thing. I'll let you know. but on the WMP thing,i already tried that. i selected "wmp" and it said it had a certain number of things as a default. When i checked what it defaulted, "DVD" was not on the list. I hate it that Media Player Executes, shuts down, then Power DVD takes over. It's not for me. Anyway,if anyone has any more advice on the WMP thing,i'd appreciate it. i can't get those plugins as they cost money and i can't afford it. Thanks.
