I would like to convert some mkvs to dvd format files and burn them onto a dvd. I've been successful with everything so far but I just have one question: Is it possible to add .ass subtitles to dvds? I prefer not to change ass to srt or something more normal, because I want to keep the original styles and positions of the subtitles.

    Any advice would be appreciated

    No.
Nor is there a magical easy conversion of ass to dvd subs.
You could go from ass to srt to subtitle creator, and try manually recreating styles and
    positionings, use sup to author.
Could be a pig of a job if we're talking exotic subs.
Could mean using an authoring app different to your current.

I'm usually dead against hardcoding subs, but this is one
of the cases where it makes a bit of sense

Ah well, I guess I'm stuck with the ugly boring subtitles, but thanks anyway.

Thanks, but after I downloaded the .net framework, it won't install properly so I can't use it.

In that link you gave me it said other things you needed, one of which was .net framework. I can't install it, and when I click the icon like you say, there's an error which is not having the right framework.

This is hijacking if ever I've seen it.
You should start a new thread with your specific problems.

Why can't you install net framework?
    You should try tackling that.
    Error messages and what not.

    What's in the mkvs?
    Several options.
    You could try these apps:
    Tmpg Xpress, Convertx, Avi2dvd, Super.
Or try frameserving with avisynth to an mpeg2 encoder, for more complicated.
