I'm thinking of buying a HVX200 camera after selling my old XL1, and I'd like to know if HVX200 plays MiniDV tapes recorded on XL1? Will there be any DV vs HDV issues?

    Thanks.

    Am i missing something here???

Both camera's record and playback MiniDV tapes...

Will there be any DV vs HDV issues?
I don't think EITHER camera plays or records HDV....

The Panasonic records HD to a proprietary P2 card...

That's a huge chunk of change to be asking these kinds of basic questions....

The HVX-200 records and plays normal 480i DV. It is a standard. It will probably play a 24p, 24pa or 24f tape but I've never noticed any specific support for DV 24p.

A good first test would be to verify special modes for the DVX-100 24p camcorder are supported. Next ask around for specific experience with XL1 tape. I recall the XL1 had no 24p capability so maybe there is no issue.

PS: The way I read this statement, it seems 24p or other Varicam modes are only supported for recording to memory in HD modes.
