    I think this comment was a perfect response to that news bit:

    "Warner's inventors claimed to have discovered that high reflectivity was not entirely necessary for even existing players to read the signals from thinner, underlying layers - transmissivity could theoretically be reduced from 100% to as low as 12%, and still be effective."

    This is a worrying paragraph.

    "transmissivity"
    Not a word.

    "high reflectivity was not entirely necessary"
    Not entirely? So it is a bit?

    "and still be effective"
    Effective doesn't mean good. Effective means mostly works.

    Uh ... yes it is ... 'cept it's used in hydrogeology to describe the flow of ground water through an aquifer, so what that's got to do with DVD players I dunno!
