trying to burn a KVCD using Nero SmartStart Essentials

To be honest have not had a pc for a while and this copy of nero i have nero smart start essentials is driving me crazy trying to burn a KVCD, i have googled, searched here to no avail. any pointers please?

so no way around it? i did d/l another copy of nero but both conflicted...

You can only burn KVCD disc image with Nero if you have one. Otherwise encode your files to MPEG in TMPGEncPlus using KVCD template (http://www.kvcd.net/portal/index.php), author in VCDEasy to get disc image (bin/cue files), then burn it. In Smart Start: Copy and Backup/Burn Image To Disc=> browse for cue file. What do you give to Nero?

The disc image for a VCD (and KVCD for the matter) are usually two files with the same name and different extension - bla-bla.cue and bla-bla.bin. You strat Nero Burning Rom, select "Burn Disc Image" and give to Nero the .cue file.
Whatever other files you give to Nero, the result would be NOT KVCD.
What is "pukka copy"?
