Hi All,
I've got a WD2500JB hard drive that makes a buzzing sound when I start my pc start's up. This happens for about 5 to 10 seconds before the hard drive becomes quiet again. The BIOS just says there was a error on the hard drive and continues. After this the drive isnt visible anywhere else i.e. I can't see it in the OS. I've tried using the WD utilities but they don't see the hdd either.
Any idea's on what's happening? and how I can resolve it?
Thanks for any help.

The servo system in the drive is probably malfunctioning. When you turn it in it is trying to align itself to its reference track position. After it tries for the preset time without success, it gives up. That is when it goes quiet again. You drive is probably just an interesting paperweight now.
