Hi Guys.. On friday my family watched a DVD, when the dvd ended they just left it on the title menu. Today when I went to insert another dvd I realised that it had been playing for all that time. Im a bit concerned now, would the DVD player still be ok? It still plays disks fine but im wondering how long this will be

If there is adequate ventilation in the area of the player, and the player was designed with adequate cooling it will be fine.

If like many DVD players it is always powered up, the power supply which is often the first to go due to heat effects on the capacitors, will probably have suffered no additional damage. The other electronics if properly ventilated with suffer no damage. Perhaps there will be some loss of laser life - equal to the amount of time it was on./

Fortunately DVD players are cheap (even with your UK VAT) and I suspect there will be little difference in the value you receive for your money you spent on your player.

You may want to check for a power saving feature. My new Philips actually cuts itself off after about 30 minutes which is nice. You see, my mom did the same thing once with one of our old players, but I think it was more like a few weeks... Anyway, the thing will no longer read DVDs. It plays VCDs and all fine, but locks up with DVDs.

The average piece of domestic hardware will have a MTBF (Men Time Between Failures) design figure. On most bits of domestic gear this is usually in the region of 50,000 hours. Knock 96 hours off that figure.......
