  1. There are so many versions of TMPG lying around my computer and I don't know which one I should use for best results. I use TMPG mainly for DivX -> SVCD conversion. I'm using versions below 2.0 (although I also have the newer ones) and have encountered no serious problems except some times a bit of asynch in the final video - but can't put the blame for this to a specific version.

I have read numerous posts about one version having serious bugs and another version producing better video and so on, also comments that latest versions do not work with external programs (worse audio quality?) but are more "professional" in encoding... I'm lost.

Any TMPG expert can help me out pick the best to use?
    Cheers

Many people say that ver 12 is the best. I know from personal experience that creates the best VBR files (except ver 2.5). Also, many vote for the next version, 12a. 2 pass vbr ain't good on this version, but overall is better 12. It produce more detailed mpeg 2 files for sure!

Then, it comes Version 12H. I done many tests with this one and I found that is exactly like ver 12, with SSE support, which make the encoding proccess faster. 2 pass VBR still creates a bit bigger files than ver12, but the quality is like 12a.

Version 2.02 is very good and stable. In a way it is like version 12, but it is much faster, with sharper picture, more detail, and 2-pass VBR almost like 12.
The latest, Vesion 2.5, has many bugs. In terms of quality, I found that 2 Pass VBR is greater than ever. I can't say for sure for picture quality.

So, I suggest 2.02 as the best version. That is only my opinion, and may differ from others! Also, my experience is with mpeg 2.
