Hi, I need some advise to what codecs should I install on my pc to be able to configure the audio/video and play it smoothly on my WMP11 without conflicting to EditStudio5. Is there any particular codec only? I d/l the K-Lite Codec Pack Standard Beta the new version and it works fine, but it compromises my EditStudio5. I can import the AVI files but for some reason I can't edit it coz' the AVI files that are imported have no info when imported to EditStudio5, so what I did was to uninstall the K-Lite Codec Pack and now it works perfectly fine but just what I have told it compromises some of my movies/videos to be out of sync (audio) and the audio seems to low I can't also change/configure it now that I uninstalled the K-Lite Codec Pack and also can't resize the screen size to my monitor 4:3 to make it fit. Please help. Thanks in advance.

BTW I think K-Lite Codec Pack (new version) is really a great codec coz' it actually can play almost all videos/movies even on DivX extension on my WMP11 and I can configure the audio/video but the only problem I have is that it conflicts with my EditStudio5. Please I really need help.

Note: I am new and have very low knowledge of codecs so please bear with me. Thanks.

Installing the K-Lite codec pack is a very bad idea. It has a known history of damaging good codecs and installing corrupted, old, or incompatible ones. And it's very hard to reverse the damage, even after a uninstall. Do a forum search for K-Lite and you will read about quite a few problems its caused.

Codec packs in general cause many more problems than they cure. You can definitely have too many codecs. If the damage is severe enough a Windows reinstall may be in order. You might try Codec Sniper to try to eliminate duplicate and corrupted codecs.

It's much safer and better to just install the codecs you need, as you need them. Gspot 2.70 will tell you which codec is needed if you find a video that won't play. Or you can install VLC media player as it plays most everything with it's own codecs and doesn't install them to your system.

Alternately, you can install ffdshow and it will work for the most common formats like Xvid and Divx and a few more.

Thanks redwudz, for your answers actually the codec that I've been using from the K-Lite Codec Pack is ffdshow coz' there I can configure the audio/video and your right most of the formats can work with ffdshow coz' everytime I play some movies/videos on my WMP11 an icon for audio and video decoder of ffdshow shows on my taskbar, but I didn't know that I can install ffdshow only. I do hope that by installing ffdshow will not affect my EditStudio5. I'll try the Codec Sniper. Thanks a bunch.

Remember that ffdshow is 'configurable'. I don't usually change any settings with it, but they are there. Someone with more experience with the program may be able to help you with the settings if it does conflict with an existing program. There are also many versions and updates of ffdshow. We usually link to a 'latest' version in our 'Tools' section. The one there presently is just a few days old.

And be careful with Codec Sniper. It can remove needed codecs too. But it does warn you.

Generally ffdshow, along with the addition of Quicktime Alternative player and Real Alternative player will work with about any video format out there. I don't often use the two players (Actually just one player is installed) but that gives me Quicktime and Real video playback without all the junk that Quicktime and Real One insists on installing.

And you can always keep VLC for some 'odd' formats that occasional come up.
