@Cheappeople,
I was wondering how long it would take someone to barge in accuse me of being cheap. Don't judge me. I have the following TV series on purchased DVD:
Highlander - Immortal Edition
The Pretender
The Waltons
And I have a shelf full of purchased DVDs.
Which movies did I recently see in cinema? Spiderman 3, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Pirates of the Carribbean - At World's End.
The last time I checked, downloading TV episodes for my own personal use is not illegal. I do not sell ripped copies of anything.
I saw Sliders when I was a little boy and wanted to see them again. I'm trying to save money this time around. I just had a birthday, my relative has a birthday this weekend, I have a wedding in August, a child coming in January and I only worked 6 out of 10 days in the past 2 weeks due to illness and time off needed for family matters.
So excuse me if I felt like saving $50 on a Sliders boxset. When I have $50 that I can spend how I choose to, I might do it.
Did you ever think for a moment that I'm doing these conversions so I can familiarize myself with encoding, batches and AviSynth?
If the mods didn't want me going on with this sort of thing, I'm confident they would have expressed their feelings long before you came in.
Now, on a more positive and progressive note...
Ah, I see what you guys mean... combine the AVI files together in the same AVS file but encode the episodes individually. If it's just one AVS file, how do I tell the encoder to process each AVI referenced as an individual file?
I've had a busy day at work and haven't eaten all day, so pardon me if these are simple matters.
Thanks to those who choose to help out of kindness.![]()

If your were doing all this conversion "so I can familiarize myself with encoding, batches and AviSynth? "you could have ripped episodes from the DVD's you own and worked with them.
Do you own the DVD's of Sliders?
Bottom line, if you don't own the Sliders Season One DVD then you can't have back-up of the episodes.
I also could not afford Sliders when it first came out. I did have them on tape when they first aired, but DeepDiscount DVD has both sets of Sliders Season 1&2 and Seasons 3&4 for around $19.00 each plus fee shipping.
I was able to get all four seasons for the price of what the original price was.

You more than admitted that you are willfully stealing something that you don't own. It's people like you with the attitude that you are somehow entitled to have something simply because you don't want to pay for it.
Its that attitude that gets the RIAA looking at sites like this to shut them down.
I gave you a valid solution to your conversion problem, buy the DVDs.
That's my help.

Perfect quality is relative based on perspective. They aren't perfect, but aren't bad either.Originally Posted by cheappeople

Nice generalization. I never said anything about having perfect quality. I know I cannot improve the quality of the source simply by increasing the bitrate. I only said I wanted the same quality as the original AVIs which I realized how to obtain after I dealt with the macroblocks.Originally Posted by cheappeople

I don't consider this warez at all. As I previously stated I'm only doing this for personal use and not distributing copies. Also, Sliders went from 1995-2000. That's 12-7 years ago. What about many PC games that old that are freely available online for download because they're so old, very few people would purchase them so not much profit is left to be made, so might as well give them away. That's like telling someone today to go out and buy an NES game console with the original Super Mario Bros. Give me a break... emulators and ROMs are found everywhere online nowadays.Originally Posted by cheappeople
Besides, I'm sure Jerry O'Connell is quite financially successful enough to make ends meet that he likely doesn't care much about receiving royalties from someone buying the seasons on DVD, if the same concept that applies to music applies to movies. But if I find the boxset, I'll probably buy it.
The reason why I'm doing this is to get them off my HDD onto DVDs with menus and such so they can be watched in our DVD player once they're off my PC. If and when I obtain the Boxset, I might just give away the burned DVDs to my fiancee's mother. Or I might give her the Boxset and keep the burned DVDs, since I'd feel more attached to those after actually creating them myself. I'm not a picky guy.Originally Posted by cheappeople
Obviously not at this moment.Originally Posted by cheappeople

Thanks for the debate and your opinion. Nothing wrong with it and in my perspective there's nothing wrong with what I'm doing. You're not going to change my mind and I'm not going to change yours. I'm not trying to, and I did not come here to defend myself against someone who joined yesterday for the sole purpose of invading my request for assistance from other helpful members who aren't so obsessed with making sure people pay for everything in life.
I hope you have a pleasant and not so cheap day. Cheers.

Did you read the Forum rules.
Warez rules
What is warez? Obtained IP (intellectual property: software/music/movies/tv-series/tv-shows) either through download, serial, or crack in a manner that either explicitly or implied breaks the copyright or license for that IP.
And when you reply to a thread its right at the top of the page.
Before you reply, please observe our following forum rules
# Do NOT give, link, ask, or advocate WAREZ.
# Warez includes downloaded copyrighted movies and TV-series/shows and copying rented movies.
Last time I checked Universal Studios owned the copyright to Sliders.
I just don't want to see you go to jail for copyright infingment.
And I joined today.
