please help, i'm such a desparate noob...

i just recently got a dvd burner and dsl internet. i've been madly downloading torrents, and went to burn to dvd today, thinking that it's just be as simple as it was to burn a cd.

    its not!

i'm using Nero Express software, which won't let me burn avi's or anything.

the instructions told me to download something like NeroVision Express. so i did, and i STILL can't burn dvds or divxs.

please someone help me- this is actually got me a little bit upset that i've got this stuff and i don't know how to use it.

i did look at those guides on this page, but was hoping to just be able to use nero. one of the reasons i wanted to use nero was because i'd been told that i could burn div-xs using nero. the other pages don't seem to offer than.

so can anyone please tell me- what is the best freeware/shareware program to burn xvids, avi's etc to BOTH dvd or divx (its nice to have the option.

Do you have a dvd player capable of playing Divx or Xvid avi's ??
If so then you can burn them directly to dvdr or cdr as data disc's and play them.

If not, you can use something like ConvertXtoDvd to convert them and burn to dvdr to watch as a standard dvd, or DVD Flick, a free alternative.

i can assure u... i googled, i checked a couple of different forums... but i either couldn't find anything, or what i did find was so rife with jargon that i couldn't understand.

so... i just get a program like dvd flick to convert my xvids and avis to div xs and burn them as data? (yes, i do have a dvd player that says it will play div x)

If you have a DivX capable DVD player then you should be able to play DivX and XviD files ... as long as the resolution is a "standard" resolution i.e., not more than 720x480/576. In other words you can't play DivX/XviD files that use HD type resolutions nor those that use an "anamorphic" type resolution (sometimes you run into 852x480). When it comes to XviD there are even more restrictions but the way most XviD files are created these days ... you should have no problem with them and should not have to convert to DivX to enjoy them.

Anyways you would simply burn the DivX/XviD AVI files directly to a CD or DVD and you can do this as a "data disc" so that means you can use NERO or any other CD/DVD burning program that can make "data discs".

What make/model DVD player do you have? Perhaps we can offer some tips if you give us that information.
