  1. Greetings:

I would like to backup all my DVDs collection onto a HD. Is there any standalone device that can hook directly into either my Denon AVR-4806 or Plasma TV TH-50PX75U (planning to update with either an 1080p Aquos LC-57D90U or TH-58PZ700U) HDMI or components video, with a swappable HD (500GB and beyond) capability allowing me to play the ripped movies in the HD if needs be?

Thanks in advance for your time and help

    I have one of these:

    http://www.mvixusa.com/mvixcompare.php

(the MV4000U) It works wonderful for me. I convert DVDs to Divx or Xvid to watch any time (also supports ISO and VOB files)

You may want to look at the MX-760HD as it seems to have what you might be looking for. You can put any size HD inside the enclosure that you want...I have a 250GB in mine...
    just a thought

  4. Thank you all for your help.

MX-760HD seems to be the device that I need except for the WI-FI and it doesn't have HDMI output. Forgive my ignorance, how can this device support HD video without HDMI output?

I am not familiar with DivX. How does the picture quality compare to DVD and the future HD-DVD or BLUE RAY? If it were you will you keep the IFO, VOB or convert to DivX?

    DivX?
It can't. Expect sub SD performance.

You can use one of these:
    http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/tvixm4100sh.asp

It's something I'm thinking of getting to play back my HDV material in full resolution.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

  7. TVIX-HD M-4100SH with HDMI and SATA seem to be a good alternative. It's too bad that it doesn't support 7.1 surround sound and not sure if it supports IFO and VOB format. I will contact the company to find out.

KSERVER-5000 spec is awesome. Beside it proprietary cartridge, this device is sold only through Hi-end components dealer in my area. So the price must be out of my reach.

May be I should wait until there is a device that would support HDMI, SATA, 7.1 Surround, 1080p, IFO and VOB support.

Maybe some of the Oppo DVD players?

People that have the Oppo's seem to love them.
