hi, i have a nokia phone that will play video, so what i have been doing is taking a dvd, ripping the movie or shows that i want, and converting it to the phones format (3gp) with Super.
my question is the only resolution that the phone will play is 176x215 (not sure if thats accurate, im not at my computer right now, but its something like that) with an 11:9 aspect ratio, (even though the phone itself has a 320x240 resolution, but thats a different question)
anyway, in Super you can choose a video bitrate from about 64 to 3000(again i dot have the exact numbers)

what video bitrate should i be useing to get the best quality, i have a 1gb card in the phone so space is not really a problem, but since the resolution is so small, i dont want to be wasteing space and encoding time, using a bitrate that is very high, when the resolution is so low that it does not make a difference, and probably uses more battery life decoding the extra

    thanks

I use 1/2 original frame rate, and a bitrate giving me 2-300 MB files for a regular 1.5 - 2 hr movie. And I use 3gp_converter, QCIF Normal quality (190 kbps video) - had problems keeping Super from messing up the AR.

    i use super for my phones, LG8100, lg9900, samsung u740, samsung u620

190K is a good bitrate for that resolution, you might even be happy with 160k

like mat, i use an FPS of 1/2 the source

if the source is a 25 fps avi then use 12.5

    for dvd use 14.985 ? ,

QCIF is 176*144, i had to use that on the lg8100,

    my lg9900 uses QVGA 320*240

your nokia might use 215*176 ? BUT not 176*215

wallpaper dimensions and video dimensions are NOT the same

video is ALWAYS wider than it is tall

these are available settings for phones are 128*96, 176*144, 220*176, 240*192, 320*240, 352*288, that i am aware of

start with 176*144 OR 220*176 and try a short video 2-3 minutes with different settings available
