That appears to be an external USB powered hard drive, with a additional video driver and video outputs. Most likely any computer that has a USB output should work with it. But you might ask LaCie, but I didn't see where you had to install any programing in the computer to transfer files to the unit. You could DL the PDF format manual from LaCie for more info: http://www.lacie.com/download/manual/silverscreen_en.pdf

The product you mention supports NTFS, FAT 32, HFS Plus. So if you want to attach it to Linux desktop, my answer would be yes, but you would be better off formatting the disk in fat32 rather than NTFS, as the NTFS drivers are not mature enough on linux.

Thank you appreciate the info.
Ntfs-3g is quite reliable on my dual booting system however it is as you say for fat, especially if plug n play is important as it is for me.
