can't copy to dvd

hi, really don't know much about this stuff, but i've lots to video clips & movies downloaded from various places i playback on PC, have even copied some music vids onto VCD from a basic Nero 7 essentials suite that came with dvd writer. it includes vision 4 as application for burning to vcd. My question is how can i copy stuff to dvd ? for example a Divx codec movie such as Flightplan[2005]DvDrip[Eng]-aXXo.avi seems that the basic nero software won't handle copying anything to a dvd for playback on my dvd player, it will only let me create a dvd data disc for pc use. hopefully i've explained my query and someone can assist, please remember im new at this and want simple method, i suppose i need to but another nero type software tool ?? but prefer free if poss, anyway thanks for any advice i may get

DivX is Mpeg 4, you need to convert it to Mpeg2 before you make DVD which can be played on your DVD player. Computer will play that format no problem as you can see.

Buy the proper dvd .... downloading copyrighted material is piracy and not allowed here .... read the rules ... you are in breach of the site rules
