I've been using Main Concept MPEG encoder for a long time but over the last few days I've had problems. I encoded an avi to DVD but the output file has no sound at all. The avi plays fine using the same software.
I put the avi through g-spot and it says it's xvid with installed codecs.
I tried re-installing the software again but it still has no sound.

    Any ideas?

What does g-spot say about the audio?

    Is mainconcept loading the audio?
You can manually load it by opening the avi again for audio source.

What does g-spot say about the encoded file?

edit: I'll take a wilder stab at it.
it's vbr mp3 (or ...) which won't load with the mainconcept avi import module,
so it's not loading automatically like you expect.
You can load it separately with directshow taking over, but
independent audio processing is way better, going say to uncompressed using vdubmod,
and then encoding to dolby with aften.

Thanks for the reply. I checked both files in g-spot and you were right about the encoded file. It said n/a in all the boxes. It also said the audio decoder was ffdshow, so I uninstalled it and guess what... It works!
    Thanks very much!
