Hey everyone well I have a Panasonic VDR-D100, and it records in the 3 formats listed in my title, I need to convert them into MPEG file (or some other file that wilkeep the same video quality) so I can edit it. I'm trying to make some tutorial videos for some websites I write for, and I need help

I tried searching the forums, and trying different software, but none seemed to work

If you have a regular VIDEO_TS folder with the VOB, IFO, and BUP files, you could use VOB2MPG to extract a single MPEG from the DVD. No quality loss. Then you could edit that with most MPEG editors.

There are other methods, but this is one of the easiest.

    And welcome to our forums.

I prefer to do an IFO rip in DVD Decrypter, outputting to a single MPG file per IFO.

One more idea can't hurt as well...

NeroVision does this too. Just load the VOBs into the interface and it will output one MPEG file per title/IFO in the Import directory according to your settings. No lossiness at all.

However, if a particular title does not show up in this directory, then that means that no conversion was necessary (no segmentation, etc) so therefore you can take that VOB file and just rename its extension from .vob to .mpg.

Note: When loading these VOB files into the interface, a question will pop up asking you if you would like some segmentation removed from some VOB files, etc., click "YES".
I hate VHS. I always did.

Thanks for the welcome! 8) , alright I don't have a VIDEO_TS folder like normal DVDs, I have a DVD_RTAV folder (its a DVD-RW if that matters at all), I still tried your program and it didn't find anything

how do I go about this? I looked around all of NeroVision, as well as Nero Rencode, and I don't see where I can choose to convert, or even if I choose to import, doesn't really see the files

Any more help? haha, Thanks a lot though guys! I hope we can figure something out!

You could just try copy the vro files and rename to mpg and edit in a mpeg editor like videoredo.

    What button?
Did you select the IFO you want to rip?

Dont mess with changing file extensions just to suite a program .

OP forgot to set the dvd recorder to VIDEO MODE , thats why they have VRO's and not VOB's .

Tmpgenc and uleadvideo studio 8 se can handle vro's .

But try mpeg streamclip from http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html

    Supported input formats:

MPEG, VOB, PS, M2P, MOD, VRO , DAT, MOV, DV, AVI, MP4, TS, M2T, MMV, REC, VID, AUD, AVR, VDR, PVR, TP0, M2V, M1V, MPV, AIFF, M1A, MP2, MPA, AC3, ...

Almost covers it all and costs nothing (if indeed it works with vro's) , but the time required to download it , and maybe quicktime if its not already installed .

Fingers crossed it dose what it says it can do , and get you on your way .

    ----

    If you read : http://digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/edit/dvdrecorder/recorderedit.htm ... correctly ?

It states at the bottom clearly that the guide can not handle VRO's .

I've never seen a VRO split into multiple files.

Alright, read that, and the button still isn't highlighted (button as in the the button at the bottom you push to continue at the bottom with the picture of the DVD, arrow, and the HD). The bar at the bottom says "Disk empty" and I double checked and made sure it was the right drive, as well as browsed directly to the folder

Mpeg Streamslip seemed to made the files really laggy/choppy in the preview, but after converting it... looks awesome!!! It works!! Thanks!!!!

PS: Thanks to everyone!, if anyone has more tips that might work better (to make sure every bit of quality stays the same, it would be awesome). But thank you SOOO much to everyone on this forum! Community is awesome on here!

    Hi

I know this is rather old but it may help somebody

I had a similar problem with .VRO files on a DVD-RAM disk from a video recorder which I needed to edit and transfer to a DVD-R video disk.

Below is the method I used, it may be of use to you.
I did try avidemux but had sound sync problems.

Originally I used this on Ubuntu Studio 7.10 but I use Toorox (my favourite) or PclinuxOS now.

    Programs
    (1)vrosplit_0.12_i386.deb(command line program)
    (2)dvbcut_0.5.4_i386.deb (started from command line)
    (3)qdvdauthor_1.0.0~rc1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
    (4)k3b

    1. I googled vrosplit and found an altair site which when translated in google gave access to a deb file and the source code. There was also instructions which I could only take a screen photo of to get a copy.
I installed the deb file without problems and after working out the syntax have been able to extract from VRO to .mpg files for processing.
It also seems to work on VOB files

I have also compiled the source on Debian, PCLinuxOS2007 and Toorox it worked.

    2. IMPORTANT NOTE dvbcut can work directly on the .VRO file but it needs to write an index file and this will CORRUPT the file system on the DVD-RAM disk.
If you copy the .VRO file to a hard drive you can then make the whole file into mpg or split it accordingly.

I have also compiled the source on Debian, PCLinuxOS2007 and Toorox it worked.

    3. I have used qdvdauthor with the extracted mpg file to produce the files required for DVD's that are playable on VLC and DVD players connected to TV

    4. I find it easier to use k3b in a KDE desktop to burn the DVD

    NOTE
I have found that if the VRO file has been edited with the original recorder it is more difficult to process.

    Hope this is of use

    Regards John
