    I thought your question was about players. Mencoder et al are encoders, not players. And as exekutive said, whether you can play the output of mencoder, ffmpegx, etc. depends on what that output is.

    Ok thanks I got confused what thread I was in.
    basically I made a list of formats I can convert for my boardies but then I realized they had parentheses with words like ffmpeg) in it.
    I was wondering if that affects anything? Do they additional things installed to play these files?
    Excuse my repitition I'm not super computer savy

  7. loveformetal, the answer depends entirely on what you're trying to do. Can you give us a specific example of a task you wanted to complete, then maybe we could make some suggestions?

    ffmpeg, mencoder and mpeg2enc are just names of software that is able to play back and compress MPEG based files.

    That is what I was trying to get answered thanks a lot man, I was having problems asking correclty, due to language problems. I really appreciate the help!
