VOB2MPG is a great tool and I see that it uses FFMPEG.exe. I don't think that VOB2MPG can be run from the command line, however, perhaps I could use FFMPEG with the same settings that VOB2MPG does.

Could I use FFMPEG to achieve the same results as VOB2MPG? If so, do you know what those settings are? Or even better, if there was a DLL I could just call to achieve the same results.

    Thanks.

    Hi there --

I, too, am interested in running vob2mpg from the command line -- I'd like to be able to automate the processing of DVDs from a batch file that has several steps. Is there any way to make vob2mpg do this, or, alternatively, any other program that does the same thing from the command line?

    Hi Scolbath,

I have searched far and wide and cannot find a commandline tool that can perform what vob2mpg does. I will have to resort to one of two approaches, therefore:

    1) I might just copy the unprotected VOBs to the HD, join them using "copy /b 1.vob + 2.vob Merged.mpg", however, the MPG is not formatted exactly as I would like it (some flv transcoders have a problem with the MPG when it is simply renamed from a VOB file)

    2) I might write a Windows script that will simulate the mouse clicks, etc. That could work if I was running one instance of the VOB2MPG app, however, I foresee issues if I run multiple simultaneous instances

I'll keep you posted via this thread. And if you come across anything, I would love to hear about it.

    Thanks.

Ok i have updated the program... version 2.5:

VOB2MPG now supports command line arguments:

    Code:
vob2mpg.exe "path to vob folder" "path to mpg folder"
So the assumption is that there will be 2 and only 2 command line arguments. If your paths have spaces you will need to enclose them in double quotes.

    ChrissyBoy,

If you lived nearby, I'd buy you a beer. Thank you for your time

Just ran it, and it works great.

Just curious: how is it different than copying the VOBs and merging them? There is a difference, I know, since transcoding from the VOB2MPG mpg file always works.

    Again, thank you.

Well it is just that the timestamps can be non sequential in a DVD title and so merged only files can (but not always) cause issues depending on the software you uses afterwards. VOB2MPG merges and resets all the internal timeings in the file.
