I made a vcd from a vhs tape a while ago and I would like to extract the video and audio to an mpeg or avi file. I am not exactly sure how to do this though I have found some useful explanations on how to extract the video, but there is no sound. Also, I am not sure if this is a VCD or a SVCD, how do I tell the difference?

If the disc meets specs, you can tell by the resolution. VCD should be 352x240/352x288, SVCD should be 480x480/480x576.

    Have you tried using VCDGear?

I'd use the (S)VCD "Disassembly" Tool from VCDEasy. Gets you all the clips, renamed and cleaned of XA mode, ripped and saved to HD.

    See pic:

Doesn't matter then if it's VCD or SVCD. You should be able to use either as source for reauthoring to DVD, etc.
