  1. Hope someone can clarify this for me. XVCD.
    What is this all about?
I currently rip and encode to vcd, because my sony standalone will not play svcd unfortunately(but will apparrently play xvcd). I have read in several places that xvcd is somewhere inbetween vcd and svcd in quality, but this is a little vague. I've looked at the various links, but to be honest, I'm no nearer. At the end of the day, I want to be able to produce the best quality fo my sony standalone. Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction, or give me some settings for use in smartripper,dvd2avi, and tmpegenc,(not forgetting NERO) which are my preferred applications. Sorry if I'm going back to basics, but I really do need some input. I'm sure we've all been frustrated at one point!.
    Thanks.

  2. Hi 1576
I do some xvcd's and what I use is 352x240 but the data rate is 1.4 Mbit/sec on the video. I do music video's and the low data rate of vcd is just too low for the fast movement. Xvcd's and Xsvcd's don't have a spec, they are just something above the spec that will play in your and hopefully others dvd players. Hope this helped a little. And to burn them in Nero make sure you uncheck the "Create Standard Compliant CD" box otherwise Nero will complain that the file is not a vcd standard.
