Here's the deal: there are two 640x480 xvid avi's @ 29,97, neither has any audio streams. I added a logo using "logo 1.7b2" filter to one of them using VDub. Then I tried to append one of them to the other and I got this:

Cannot append [name of file] The video streams have different data formats.

(Mismatch detected in opaque codec data at byte 21 of the format data)

The problem is that they're both the very same clip, only one of them has the logo at the moment.

Question: can I somehow join them anyway without having to reencode them? I want to add the logo to *a lot* more files AND I don't want to lose quality, either. I tried searching the forums for answers, but to no avail.

Try avidemux, it doesn't seem to be as picky as vdub when you join.

  3. You should have joined then logo'd the files. If they join before logo'ing then you created the new logo file different than the original.

Even if you get them joined my guess is that they may have playability problems at the join that Vdub is protecting you from having.

Having said that it is a guess as sometimes even when Vdub joins them they are not quite right at the join.
