I have several .avi files which I would like to merge and compress for play on my portable (Palm TX). VirtualDub and AutoGK (and a couple of commercial one-click programs I tried) all choke on the codec, which is revealed by AVICodec to be "OpenDivx v4".

Every reference I have found to this codec on the Web describes it as now having been folded into the XviD project. Well, I have the XviD codec and it does not work for processing these files. Is the "original" OpenDivx codec out there anywhere??

  2. What's the fourcc code?

In Xvid you can try enabling the decoding of DIVX, DX50, and MP4V.

ffdshow has decoders for many different MPEG4 fourcc's.

I'll bet that if you just changed the fourCC to Xvid, then Xvid would work with it. Look in the tools <-- section for AVI, fourCC.

    edit: AVIFrate should do it.

The fourcc comes up as "divx" (all lower case).
