I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. It should be required reading for all logic/debate/rhetoric courses in colleges since it highlights just about all of the logical fallacies and means of obfuscation available to the speaker (writer). It also provides some good suggestions on the design of polls and experiments and what constitutes proof. It is always easier to prove something to ourselves than it is to prove that same thing to someone else. The scientific method was developed over the centuries because of this human tendency.
Thanks to Kinneara (sp?), Virtualis and Koala Bear for providing such a great example of the art of argument as opposed to discussion.
As a newbie to video encoding, I will have to experiment with different encoders to find one/several that meet my need. I probably won't spend money on CCE since for the price, it would have to be 20x better than everything out there for me to buy it.
Thanks all

I've received poor results with CCE. The resulting audio sounded tinny, like it had lost it's high and low freqency, or it had been overly compressed. I only tried it twice, with poor results both times. Extracted the same audio from the source, with excellent results.
Why bother with it? Most of the higher end authoring software uses a separate audio stream anyway. It's easier to extract the source 'as is', rather then muxing around with it, especially if it's 5.1 dts.
In the end, who cares. Use what you like... 8)Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
What a blast from the past.
I would like to note that out of all the circular arguments, one thing was pointed out.
The statement, commonly made, that "CCE audio sucks" has at least a possibility of being not entirely accurate.
I believe that the incompatibility of CCE with some AMD chips is a factor, as well as the problem CCE has when there is no audio in the stream. These two, very real problems have infuenced many to agree with an evaluation of audio quality which may not be accurate, or at least helped perpetuate what may in fact be a myth.
That this particular myth is not really relevant makes the debate less meaningful; however, it IS a good example of how some unrelated truths can contribute to a less than exact conclusion. -
I doubt that as often as many new versions of CCE are released, that Custom Technology would fail to correct any glaring audio bugs in the product (AMD issues aside). Although I prefer BeSweet, TooLame, and SSRC for my audio needs, I have never had an audio file output that was not exactly to spec.
CCE (my version as least) supports only 2 channel audio, which I can honestly say, compared to 5.1, sucksImpossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
