  1. I've just built a new machine with the following specs:

    Athlon XP 1900+
Epox 8Kha+ with Via KT266a chipset
    1.5 GB High performance RAM
IBM 75GXP Deskstar 75 GB UDMA IDE drive
    Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
    Plextor 24/10 CDR/W
    Toshiba 16x DVDRom

I'm temporarily using an old Geforce2 Ultra vid card in it because I'm not exactly sure which capture card to get. At first I was thinking I would get one of the new ATI AIW Radeons, but after doing some extensive reading here, I've changed my mind and now I'm trying to figure out which of the following would be the best:

    Dazzle DVC II
    Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge

Or perhaps something I've overlooked. I don't have a digital vid camera...yet. I do plan to get one eventually, but I'm looking to record programs directly from TV in high-quality format for later archiving to CD. I also have several home vids that I want to convert to VCD or SVCD.

    Anyway any help is appreciated!

  3. I know some people haven't, but I have been very happy with the ATI AIW Radeon 32DRR. With tools out there like Stinky's Reg Tool, great VCD capture quality is possible. But this is my first capture card and I can't speak for or against others.

  4. As already mentioned the Dv Bridge is very good...... You will need alot of hard disk space for the capture file ! - The DVC2 is also a very good capture card.... allowing capture in 'Real=Time' to VCD SVCD & DVD (Amongst other X settings) ..... The choice is yours at the end of the day... I would personaly go for the DVC2..... :P

  5. Hiei,

I read through the user comments on the Pinnacle and someone mentioned something about a problem doing DVD conversions because of a spike or something in the data. Is this a problem?

The only kind of editing I might be doing is getting rid of commercials and such, but probably nothing really high tech. It is quite a price difference as well. I'm not adverse to spending $550, I just wonder if it's worth twice the price of the DVCII.

    Thanks!
