    ok this is not navi

this is without a doubt a renamed file. it is either asf or mwv.
letting you knowthis file opens and starts converting fine with TMPGEnc 12h, i did not let the full encode run i just did the first 10 seconds.

i have to admit it is an outstanding re-encode but im not sure why it was resized down to 320 from its original 352 width. if you plan to make a vcd from this it will probably require a good deal of filtering. the file as it is has about 3 meg of data per minute and a VCD needs about 10 meg of data per minute. you may be trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear.

personally i would think your time could be better spent improving how you get stuff so you can get the actual VCD rather than trying to constantly re-encode and fix the releases that are already re-encoded from the original VCD that you could have downloaded in the first place.

there are lots of very helpful guides on www.slyck.com that may be able to help you get a better source. i would suggest looking into newsgroups or IRC for finding VCD's

  4. Gee I'm starting to get a complex guys. Just to clear things up, I have no choice how these things are encoded. I just download them from a hotline server and what I get is what I get. Since the academy screeners are out things have got better (picture wise). I am trying tmpg 12a on a new asf screener right now to see if it works. Boston1 said his did not and I am thinking that his files are similar to these I get. Not sure why this guy on hotline renames these asf files to avi though.

  7. I am posting the 1st half of that billy bob/halle berry flick Monster Ball. It crashes in tmpg 12a and is an asf file renamed to avi.

It will be fully uploaded in about 1.5 hours and is 177MB (could not find anything smaller, sorry)

Sefy give this a try if you have the time and see if you can convert to mpg

ANd, I take back what I said about vanilla sky 1 - after 35 minutes Tmpgenc 12a crashed.

Sefy, if yours worked, then you must have a codec installed that we don't.

I have divx 4.12, nimo, krystal and smr all installed.

    thanks.

  9. I found this at http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html in the Support section. I used the vdub 1.3 to extract the wav and then used tmpg (the latest version) to convert the video using the wav as the audio file and it worked great on the Royal Tenenbaums. It took a bit more time to convert than I would have expected but nothing unreasonable.

    ---------

to all those people who are having trouble converting certain ASF files to MPG
files using TMPGenc (takes incredibly long time when converting audio part), I've found a solution (or workaround). It requires another step, but it is worth it. You need to use VirtualDub (v1.3c or less because they were forced to take ASF support out of higher versions) to convert the audio in the ASF to a WAV file, then use this as the source for audio in TMPGenc.

Now i've seen other people say this too, but I always had other problems, like VD not opening the ASF (complained it couldn't find a decompressor for 'mp42'). That's when (no matter WHAT operating system you're running as long as it's a flavor of windows) you have to get one of the codec packs around the internet (I used NEMO 4.4). That will install the appropriate decompressors to allow VD to open the ASF.

Once it's open, go to Audio->Full Processing and then File->Save WAV... and it will export it. Another thing you can do is use an external MP2 encoder in TMPGenc, i used SCMPX because tooLAME was crashing.

Here are some links: (use google to find others if not working)

    nimo codec pack:

  10. Well, I still got that partial file you gave me, so we can simply resume it, if it is the same as the other "Vanilla Sky" then I should have no problems doing the entire file into VCD.

  11. I feel that if I could just somehow get virtualdub to reconstruct these asf files I would have a good starting point. I installed nemo4.4 along with everyother conceivable codec and i still get the can't decompress mp4s message. How the heck are you guys doing it. I am running win 2000 on a gigmhz machine.

  13. just a thought...

WAY to much effort for not enough result.

that vanilla sky is the worst quality copy released, if the royal tenenbaums is also a re-encode of the FTF copy then send them to the recycle bin. there are FAR better copies than that out.

I agree with the way too much effort - now I'ts just a tremendous challenge for me to figure out. Royal Tenenbaums is actually excellent screener quality.

  15. Now that the screeners are all over the internet the quality is not an issue anymore. Vanilla-sky was downloaded the day the movie came out in theaters. I have many great quality movies that I want to burn to dvd. And without this issue being resolved I (we) can't do it. Besides that I'm addicted to this crap and need serious help so in a way you are right.

To me it sounds like an asf or wmv file (more like a wmv - windows media 8 ) so to try and help you guys out without currently having the file try opening the file in a proggy called GraphEdit. From there you can convert any asf or wmv file to a true avi file but the output is uncompressed MS-YUV so the file will be huge (you might see if you can chop it up using AsfTools) and then you will be able to encode it with any version of TMPGEnc or VDub.

Here's the link on how to do the conversion from asf or wmv to avi:

    http://cvrr.ucsd.edu/~tbhall/asst/WMVtoAVI.html

    I hope this helps!

  19. Hello....I'm new here and do not know if you guys have this yet. Ever here of AVINFO? I found it a long time ago on the web and have not seen it since. I was looking for an updated version -- but no luck. Anyways, sounds like you guys could use it. I've tried it on WinNT platform and it didn't work for me....so I use it on Win98SE and it works fine. All you have to do is click the setup and register it with the file that says 'clickme.reg' and re-boot. after that, any *.AVI file you right click on will have the option of 'AVI INFO' just click that and it will tell you what type of compression it uses for video and sound. If anyone knows where I can get an update to run it on WINNT please let me know. I think all one has to do is re-do the 'clickme.reg' file to get it to work on WINNT but I don't know how....anyways, without further delay, here it is: http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/71227d6c/bc/My+Documents/AVI+INFO.exe?bcNX1q8ANAmolqLq

I tried avinfo, and it crashes, and i believe its because the file is not a true avi file.

  22. I tried that graphedit lesson from the above post and it pretty much trashes the video and the audio is out of sync.

  23. HI i got the 1st tenebaum to run with virtualdub then tmpgenc
but 2nd half wouldnt go through with virtual got error

also vanilla sky would take for ever to run through tmpgenc without decompressing audio but virtual dub gave error also

i find tmp at the beginning of the file name run better then with uni and mp at the beginning does anyone know what these are

I hope we can figure this out would love to have one set of documents and programs to:

    decompress audio
    then avi to mpeg
    then to burn

i have so many decompressors and codec its ridiculous

  24. Well, I d/l the Monsters Ball movie and had a look inside,
AFAICD what these crackheads have done is.

Packed the video with M$ crappy ASF format (V1).

Packed the Audio with the latest M$ WMA codec.

So Vdub 1.3 has no problem with the Video stream, but
chokes on the audio stream and there seems to be no
apparent solution to this mismatch of codecs.

Given the general crappy look of the movie, it's not
something worth spending a lot of time on anyway.

monster's ball is a crappy is version, but some of the other are excellent quality screeners(black hawk down, ALi, Royal T.) and the version I can encode I can't bearly even make out the screen. That's why we're trying hard to figure out how to do this.

  26. Well, if it's good quality screeners in a familiar format you want, here's
    what to do.

First grab eDonkey2000 and install it..............

Then look for a site called Sharereactor..................

Go bonkers trying to d/l all the nice screeners, including Ali in mpg :D

  27. Oh and Black Hawk Down is not on Sharereactor, but I've seen a pretty good SVCD of it that a friend of mine got hold of, so it's probably just a question of time.

And both Monsters Inc. & Royal T. is also in mpg :D

I cant figure out how to search for sites/servers on edonkey2000.

  29. Well, eDonkey is a P2P program, sort of like Napster, but with much more contents (movies - programs - tv series - etc. etc)

Once you've started eDonkey, go into options, set Max Download speed to 20 and Max upload to 12, don't go under 12 in upload speed, or eDonkey will lower your download speed (to prevent leachers setting upload to 0)

If you are using a proper OS (Win2k, XP, XP Pro or Linux) you can set max. connections to whatever you want, 500 is a good number though, none of the Win9x can deal with more connections than 20, unless you fiddle with the registry.

Last thing to do is to mark "Always stay connected", restart eDonkey and you are set to go.

First find http://217.162.89.158/ipchange.html (in your browser, not eDonkey)
This is a constantly refreshed list of active eDonkey servers, click the top link and scroll down to the bottom of the page, click "Add All" in the lower left corner and the servers will automatically be added to eDonkey's server list.

Then try the following sites (still in your browser)

    http://www.sharereactor.com/
    http://www.filenexus.com/phpBB/index.php

Here's how these web-sites work, none of the movies, programs, etc. you see is on the web, what happens when you click on a link to f.eks. a movie is that it will be added to eDonkey's download list and eDonkey will start looking and downloading it from people all over the world.

Oh and have patience, not so popular stuff can take ages to download (f.eks Fallout 2), while new stuff can be downloaded pretty fast (f.eks. Ali), simply because more people will have the new stuff.

Good luck and remember to check the ShareReactor/eDonkey forums, you can find many answers to whatever problem you might have there

I find that it stays in "looking" status for hours - do you have to actually connect to any server first, or is clicking a link on the site enough?
