Yes, as long as there is an available slot and you have the right connectors (IDE/SATA). If IDE, you will need to set master/slave jumpers.

Thanks for the reply. if i was to buy an external hd instead would this just connect to the computer through the usb slot?

Yes. You can buy external HD's already put together or you can make your own with an internal HD and an external 3.5" enclosure and insert the HD (a few screws and 2 cables to connect). Either way, all you have to do is connect to USB and it should work right away.
