It seems to me that this would be a fairly easy concept to grasp, however, I cannot get ANY software to actually do what I want.
Is there just not an easy way to rip one episode at a time from a TV Show DVD? I have tried DVDDecrypter, and the audio tracks are never the one I need - English (I get French, English with subtitles, arrrgghh!!)
I have seen people here recommend ripping the 'main movie' portion of the DVD and then using another program to edit it down. That's like putting the cart before the horse to me....
I have tried DVDFab Platinum as well as DVDShrink (and besides the fact that DVDFab Platinum crashes every time I switch from one disc to the next), and it seems that the maximum *.vob file size is 1 GB. That of course means if the show is 30 minutes or more, then my result is more than one *.vob file, which leads to an annoying, jerky pause during playback.
I want one program that will rip one TV episode at a time - where my result is one *.vob file for each episode
Am I dreaming, or does that not exist? How could that be so difficult? I just want to watch the episodes I want, how I want. It is immensely annoying to have to change discs, wait for the new disc to load, then navigate though menus and intros to get to the episode I want.

And if you didn't change the ground rules with every post of yours, this might be a bit easier. So you've figured out how to decrypt using DVDDecrypter? And you can get files larger than a GB in just one VOB? Making progress, eh? But now you're peeved that you hear audio tracks you don't want? If you knew anything about how VOB files worked, then you would realize that any of the audio tracks on there (English, Director's Commentary, other languages) might show up. You're not playing the DVD, but just VOB files. And if you used the right players, you could still choose the audio track you want. Anyway, before decrypting, hit the "Stream Processing" Tab, check the "Enable Stream Processing" box, and uncheck anything you don't want.
Frankly, I find your whole attitude very annoying. Have you stopped to consider that the main problem preventing you from doing what you want just may be yourself? I'm referring mostly to your other thread (why a new one on the same topic?):

What is so hard in searching this website? the answer to your question has been answered time and time again, it is pathetic that you would rather moan than easily find the answer.

manono:
First, I want to apologize if you found my attitude annoying. I am sorry for that.I wasn't feeling well yesterday
, and I was becoming frustrated. As far as my other topic, I originally was gearing that specifically toward DVDFab Platinum, but I see your point.
Let me be perfectly clear about what I have - and what I want.
What I have:
- HP Compaq nc6220 laptop (running Windows XP Professional - service pack 2 installed)
- Intel 1.73 GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM
- Matshita UJDA765a DVD/CDRW (plays & burns CDs, plays DVDs)
- Both primary & secondary IDE Channel properties are set to 'DMA if available'
.......
- InterVideo WinDVD version 5.0
-DivX Player Version 6.4.3 (downloaded the latest update on June 3rd, 2007 as well)
What I want:
I want to rip single episodes from the TV show DVDs I own to my external hard drive (Western Digital "My Book Essential" 250 GB HD via USB 2.0 interface) so that I can watch specific episodes when and how I want.
I had previously downloaded and attempted to use DVDDecrypter, which seemed to work, except that I was hearing every audio track except the one I wanted - and I was unsure about how to change that problem.
From there, I tried DVDFab Platinum. There, I could simply uncheck the audio tracks I didn't want, which solved the problem I initally had with DVDDecrypter. But the problem I had with DVDFab was that in the case of larger files, DVDFab would generate more than one *.vob file, which is of course undesirable during playback.
Again, manono I am truly sorry if I sounded annoying - I did not mean to come off that way. I humbly apologize.
Now - what I will do is try your "Stream Processing" advice and hopefully solve my issue once and for all. -

What is so hard about searching this website, you ask?
On the search page, I typed in every possible combination of what I wanted, and didn't come up with anything I thought was useful.
Finally, I went back to the search page and simply typed "Rip" to pull up every guide I could. I found a total of 73 guides, and I did look through each one. Please don't get the impression that I did not thoroughly research my topic before registering and posting to this forum. I would not be so inconsiderate as to waste everyone's time if I hadn't tried myself.
One guide I found: How to rip a DVD to the HD using DVD Decrypter was filled with questions and feeback from users that had problems or errors. To me, that didn't seem very reliable.
Another guide I found: How to do a complete rip with DVD Decrypter was close to, but not exactly what I am looking for. Again, I do not want to nor do I think it should be necessary to have to rip an entire DVD just to get one episode from it.
I do not find searching this website to be a difficult task - Perhaps I find it just as easy as you found it to berate an belittle me....rather than just posting a link to the topic which you say has been answered time and time again.
A good teacher doesn't ridicule those who don't know the answers they find obvious - instead, they light the path. -
You have clearly searched wrong, searching for "tv series" instantly gives results to exactly what you want to do. I admit i was a bit of a **** with my reply but anyway see below link

I want one program that will rip one TV episode at a time - where my result is one *.vob file for each episode
With dvddecrypter and the ddmfrip script, it does exactly that. -

All is forgiven (on both ends, I hope) - and truly - thank you for the help - I do appreciate it.

DVD Shrink, movie only, picking the audio you want should work, give one big file.
If not, and DVD Shrink makes one file per episode, do that, then merge in a joiner of some sort. Personally, I'd use Womble MPEG Video Wizard. But for free, TMPGEnc's MPEG TOOLS will do the trick.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

And I have seen, read through and used the guide you pointed me to (the first three "steps" on ripping)....it's just that the language issue stumped me (I was always getting the wrong audio tracks) - however, the "Stream Processing" tip (from Manono will hopefully solve that.
Again thanks.[/b] -

Thanks for your help. I now have several options to try and see what works easiest and best.
Thanks again -

I tried your advice on an episode of Cowboy Bebop, where both English and Japanese audio tracks were available, and the size of the file was larger than 1 GB.
With no file-splitting and only the English audio stream processed, I did achieve the desired result - 1 *.vob file in English, using DVDDecrypter.
Thanks again for everyone's help.
