  1. Hi!

I have downloadet a bin/cue file which contains a svcd burn-image. My problem is that I can't play svcds in my DVD-player, so I want to convert the file to a mpeg1 file, and then burn it as a normal vcd. I have already converted the cue-file to a mpeg2-file, but when I try to convert the mpeg2 file to mpeg1, using Tmpge or CCE, the result has a fail: The sound plays in normal speed, but the picture-part goes really fast. After 5 seconds, there's about 1 second "between" the pictrure and the sound

Hope someone out there is able to help me.

    Best Regards

    This

    (Sorry about my bad english)

My guide may be able to help you, it has info from converting svcd to xvcd (just lower your bitrate if you can't support xvcd on my guide)

I read your guide and i worked. Yeah!

  4. I notice dav1dh's page deals with the re-encoding the LOTR SVCD to VCD. These instructions were posted on alt.binaries.vcd to "fool" your non-SVCD standalone player into thinking it was playing the MPEG2 as an XVCD, without re-encoding:

you can make the svcd play on your dvd if your dvd player will play xvcds
to do this use TMPGenc and nero
extract the mpg file from the bin and cue
    do the following:
    1 goto file/MPEG tools
    2 select 'simple multiplex'
    3 select type 'MPEG-1 Video-CD'
4 video input 'YOUR MPEG FILE'
5 output 'DESTINATION FOR YOUR FINISHED FILE'
    6 run
note: make sure that when you insert your file into the 'video input'
that the select type option doesn't spring to 'MPEG2 program'. If it
does then click 'MPEG-1 Video-CD' again.
    Next step:
Start NERO (tested with version 5.4.4.0) using template Video-cd (you
need to turn off the standard compliant option, but as all your files
have now a VCD header they should be able to fool NERO into thinking
they are really VCD files), add files and then burn.
My experience was that the image quality was great, but that the image didn't fill the screen horizontally ... scaled down (to fit vertically, I think), not squashed. I had the same results when I muxed it as a non-standard VCD in TMPEG.

The original poster added more information:
    1) I mounted the image with Daemon Tools..
    2) Drag and dropped the AVSEQ01.MPG file from the mpeg2 folder, to
    my hard drive...
    3) I opened TMPGEnc-2.02.31.119 from the file drop down / mpeg
    tools...simple muiltiplexing pops up 1st...
    4) Browsed to mpeg file....
    5) ONCE I SAW THE FILE INSIDE.. I MADE SURE ( MPEG 1 VIDEO CD) WAS CHOSEN FROM DROP DOWN WINDOW....
    6) Renamed the output source....and hit RUN....This could take up to
    five minutes...
    7) ***Note when it finished i did get an error that said this..
" s-packet caused buffer underflow -the mpeg file might cause
    error when it played.."
    8) I ignored the error and proceeded to open Nero....
    9) Choosing ( VIDEO CD ) ...NOT SVCD...
10)- UNCHECKED CREATE STANDARD COMPIANT CD-
    11) Drag and dropped the fixed mpeg into Nero, let Nero do it's
    thing...
    12) chose write cd...( I have a TDK x 24 Burner...yet I chose to burn
    at 12 x..to be safe)
    13) Also I believe it's important that you choose TRACK AT ONCE...
I have a Pioneer 343, which plays SVCDs, but I would like a version that plays in other machines. Also, I notice that my player doesn't support "resume" for SVCDs, but it does for VCDs, so if it could play an SVCD but think it's a VCD, I could theoretically be able to "resume" play if I stop the disc.

I'd be very interested in any advice, comments, etc. anybody else could offer.

I tried that nero trick and it didn't work, I think the bitrate was too high, the video and audio skipped. That is why I made the guide, I'll update the page with info about the "nero trick"

  6. Well, I tried again using the latest version of TMPG and had the same results. This time, I noticed that the image _did_ look squashed horizontally on my Pioneer 343.
However ... the disc plays fine on my Sony S560D, which also plays SVCDs. Beautiful picture, widescreen image, etc. Treats it like a VCD and gives me a "resume" function. The sound may be a hair out-of-synch, but I have had worse problems with standard VCDs in the past.
I think you're right about the bitrate.
Any idea how I can get around the squashed image? I am pretty sure it's presenting a square image to match the 480x480 resolution. I tried changing the video setup from Letterbox to P&S, but that didn't help.

  7. Craig - Have you tried PBCs on the "faked" VCD with the Sony S560D? I can get menus, etc. to work with standard VCDs, but not with SVCDs in mine.

  8. Sorry ... haven't tried menus at all.

  9. When I try the trick that Craig Fuqua has posted above I get an mpg file that is too big for NERO to burn. I have been trying everything to be able to play the LOTR svcd on my dvd player. I have a Panasonic SA-HT70 which is supposed to be able to play xvcds fine but I have not had any luck.

  10. I've posted this elsewhere, so pardon me if you've already tried it. Follow the instructions on this site for burning an SVCD with Nero (if you have Nero, of course). The trick to getting an 800+ meg file to fit on a 700-meg disk is to change to ISO Level I.
