Hi
Can anyone tell me how to set CCE so that it generates a PAL format MPEG2? I need 480 x 576 at 25 fps. I'd also like the best quality I can get.
Which leads me onto another question. Much of the stuff I want to put on SVCD is home produced and until now has been stored on S-VHS. I want to better this quality (I still have the DV masters). Is there any way I can produce a DVD format MPEG2 (720 x 576) but still save it (and play it of course) on a SVCD?
Many thanks
-Pete

I guess you can use the 720x576 mpeg2 on XSVCD .
CCE doesn't have resize function. The only way to resize to 480x576 is to use Virtualdub Frameserver or Avisynt/Aviwrapper with a resize filter. -
Thanks for that reply.
This resize thing intrigues me. Do you have the time to explain how I would use either VirtualDub or Avisynth to achieve the target format?
Finally, is the quality improvement such with CCE (as opposed to Tmpegenc) to warrant the extra effort. Indeed, is there any improvement at all?
Kind regards

I don't have much control over CCE, so I don't use it.
I have a DV500 pluss with hardware accelerated mpeg2 encoding.
For Svcd and Vcd encoding I use Tmpgenc. The video is allways DV-PAL. The quallity is very good.
If you don't have Virtualdub you can download it from www.virtualdub.org. Unzip and start Auxsetup.exe.
- Install handler - Avifile frameclient support.
Run Virtualdub
Open video file
Video/filters - add - resize - ok - new width/hight 480/576 - ok - ok
File/Start frameserver - you make a name.vdr or name.avi file.
Start CCE (2.5) - add - name.vdr - Edit - start encoding

Read the "How to" - "Convert" on the left You can fined many guides there. -
That's very kind of you. I'll get onto that right away.
Tell me, the DV500 output: this is a two file process, isn't it, where you end up with an *.mp2 file and a *.wav file. How do you get those multiplexed together to create an *.mpg (MPEG2) file that you can use in an SVCD?
I have a gloomy feeling that the answer will be obvious, but I really am new to this end of it (if that wasn't patently obvious...).
Thanks again

That's right. Pinnacle Mpeg2 export makes a mp2 and a wav file.
I just encode the wav with Tolame/Tmpgenc to mpa 44.1 khz - file and Mux those 2 files together in Tmpgenc.
Actually I don't mux anything because I make a DVD out of it with Impression or DVDit. It use mp2 and wav file. -
I see...
Look, I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but I also have this Impresssion program. So far, I've not been too impressed. In fact, I uninstalled it!
Are you aware if it can be used to make SVCDs as well DVDs?
Kind regards

Impression DVD-SE or DVD-PRO is the best one for DVD authoring. The best one you can get for a little investment.
If you have DV500 than you have to use Bitratev Viewer to get rid of the user spike at the and of the mpeg stream.
Take a look at the Ulead website. They have software to make SVCDs as well DVDs?
