I tried to burn a movie to this drive, but the software ImTOO says that the drive is a Readable Only CD Drive.
This burner used to work in the past, but this is the first time I've tried to use it since my comp crashed and I had to reformat the hard drive.
I thought that it might be a driver problem, but when I rt-click and go to properties on the drive under My Computer, it tells me the drivers are okay. I wish I knew what brand the drive is so I can see if there are any other drivers I need, but there's not a brand on it anywhere. It just came in the dumb Compaq.
If someone can help me here, I would soooooooooo love you.

Optical drives don't have separate drivers under W2K/XP, however I have seen instances where they have been incorrectly identified, even after having worked for some time.

A couple of things I would try. First, try burning with something other than ImTOO. I would suggest Imgburn. It's small, free, and very good. I have never been impressed by ImTOO products.

If you still cannot burn, try uninstalling the driver through device manager, shutting down you machine, and unplugging the drive's IDE cable. Restart the machine without the drive, let windows boot up, then shut it down and connect the drive back up. Reboot again, and windows should find and install the drive.

Now test. If it still fails, it may be time for a new drive.
