    Hi,
Can anyone give me advice on a dvd player in the kitchen? I've got a kutchenhaus kitchen (which I love by the way, www.kutchenhaus.co.uk ) and I want something that is really low profile but sturdy. thanks!

I've seen small LCD-TV sets that mount to the bottom of a cabinet. I suppose a car LCD display could work. The DVD player can be mounted inside the cabinet.

I have a 13" tube on my counter, under the cabinets in the corner, and a cheap Durabrand DVD player from Walmart sitting on top of it. It's a top-loader, very compact. Works fine. My only "negative" is it won't play a lot of Ritek media, but we all know how bad Ritek reflectivity is, and therefore the fault lies with the media itself.

My advice would be to buy the cheapest player you can and expect to replace it sooner than you'd like. I have forgotten who, but one of the forum regulars has warned that if you fry a lot that you'd be surprised how much oily residue will find its way through the air to electronic components nearby, so you should probably prepare yourself that any DVD player in the kitchen will not last as long as you'd like. You should also be aware that today's DVD players are deliberately designed to be as thin as possible. The marketplace demands it and it has the "benefit" of making DVD players depend on air cooling. DVD players that don't have good air circulation die quicker, which means you have to buy a new one sooner. Manufacturers love this. Whatever you get, be sure to give it plenty of free space to air cool, especially in a kitchen which might get hot. Expect lower lifespan with anything you buy, so you should buy as cheap as possible.

Mine is not close to my oven or stove, luckily. In fact, I have one of these that feeds the living room cable feed to the kitchen. Works well, except when using the microwave (interference on same frequency).
