    Hi, everyone!

I'm stwbrysunshine and I'm new here and I've got a question: I've been making short films with USB, editing in Windows MovieMaker. I just converted to Firewire (yay) and everything's been going great until I started working on a new project, which is roughly an hour in length, unedited. The problem is, as I drag and drop each file into the storyboard window, each file becomes grainy and the sound quality sounds tinny and metallic. Is this something that will fix itself when I burn the project to DVD, or am I doing something wrong? Or should I just get a better program? Or recapture everything again? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Cheerfully,

    strwbrysunshine

If you mean in the preview window then, yes, things should look better when rendered. Simple test - render a couple of minutes to DV avi and see what it looks like.

As long as your capture settings are set to DV-AVI it's an exact duplicate of what is on the cam.

    ahhh, sweet.

i know i should test it...but how's this for fun: apparently my burner only came with a trial burning period and the actual pack is an extra 70 i don't have right now. (lame! a burner that doesn't really burn!)

thanks for putting my mind at ease! you guys rock!

As far as the captured file goes you can use g-spot to determine what it is. Hard to screw it up with Movie Maker though cause you only have the choice of DV-AVI or WMV. You can also look at the file size, should be 13-14 gigs per hour. there's other software for trnasferring from the cam, WinDV is quite popular.

Trial for what? I have yet to see a burner that didn't come with basic versions of burning software. Either Roxio or Nero usaully.

just a guess, but it's probably the mpeg encoder that was a demo not the burning software itself. there are a few few encoders listed in the tools section. as for burning software you can't get much better than imgburn which is also available as freeware. may take a little time to learn but worth it.

if you need a free, easy to use encoder there is an old version of convertXtoDVD still listed.

I just used that link and the program worked as expected except is there any way to adjust the bitrate? It created a DVD of only 2.2gb of a 2hr avi?
