Could not open 'mp3' error -ffmpeg

Hi.

Recently I've seen this error when my attempts to recode start and end almost instantly. Interestingly, it affects ffmpeg AVI/mpeg4 conversions, but not the same file converted with mencoder AVI.

What is happening? What should I do? Reinstall something? Why does MP3 seem to work for mencoder encoding?

Wonder why nobody's replying? Someone on another board told me he thinks ffmpegX is a dying application. Is this true? Last update was 8 months ago, and lots of requests for help are going unanswered on this board. Where are the superusers?

Anyway, I'll keep on hoping.

I cannot replicate your error. When I try to convert an XviD/AC3 AVI (~700 MB, 43 min, 960x544) to DivX ffmpeg (ffmpeg mpeg4/mp3), it encodes happily. I have no idea why it says: Could not open 'mp3'.

Someone on another board told me he thinks ffmpegX is a dying application. Is this true?

The internet is full of rumors of all kinds.

Lots of requests for help are going unanswered on this board.

It's quite possible that some posts are about issues that other forum users do not have an answer to. Besides, you said yourself that you had it working with mencoder.
