I want to convert my recordings to a decent size for torrents

I have had the luxury of enjoying many shows and I would like to return the favour

I have done much research and have searched this site and the internet but have yet to find a succinct guide

A 40 minute show usually ends up being about 350 mb

I can't get my recordings this small

I have various options of recording
    dvd recoder
    hd digital tv tuner card
    topfield

    I use VideoRedo often

I guess it's just the settings but I would love a succinct guide that explains how to get a 40 minute programme down to a 350mb avi file

    any help would be appreciated

Try WMV or MPEG 1 if you want a fairly universal format for web video.

first you capture/record it 'the best you can do' file size will be BIG

then you use one of the available conversion/encoders to convert it to VBR Xvid or dviX at the appropriate reduce resolution

thats how you get it down to 350 meg

personally i prefer higher quality like 700 meg per 42 mintues of TV series
