I cannot get DVDFab Platinum to just copy one title from the DVD! Is there any software out there that can "pick apart" a DVD into titles? I tried the "customize function" to try and get .vob files, and that didn't work - more than one title was in each .vob file. I then tried the "generic" conversion to try and get .avi files - but I only got picture and no sound on my DivX player. I then tried converting the file into mp4 format so I could play the items in iTunes - and I got it to work - but then I keep getting subtitles - I don't want them - and there is no option to turn them on or off. I want something in simple, plain English where I can click on the titles I want - copy, and play them! I don't want to copy a whole dvd - I don't want to create a dvd - I just want to upload the titles from each dvd I want to my hard drive so I can play the titles I want, when I want. Is that so difficult????

1: Dvdfab = rip the whole dvd to hard drive .
2: Run pgcdemux , load the required ifo of title .

Pgcdemux has a title and chapter list down to the right , if the title contains more than one , you need to know the one your after .

Similar issue with aliens vs predator , by refering to inside the box , it shows 15 chapters , but pgcdemux shows 3 titles , but one lists only 15 chapters , thats the one .

You may even beable to use vobblanker to remove the unwanted titles , leaving only the content you want , but no guarantee , it may work well , or it may not .

Normal > dvdfab (whole dvd to hard drive) > pgcdemux (strip wanted title out) > Ifoedit (rebuild title) > vobblanker (replace original title with new title) > done .

if you have TMPGEnc dvd author you can rip the dvd to your hard drive and open it in dvd author it will split the titles for you,all you need to do is select the title that you want and save to a dvd folder.

Thanks for the help - I ended up trying DVDFab Platinum. When I loaded the DVD, I used the preview window to pick the specific titles (episodes) I needed and ripped them one at a time and placed them in separate folders. I then used InterVideo WinDVD to create playlists using the *.vob files that were generated. It works beautifully. In my particular case, I was pulling individual Bugs Bunny cartoons from a boxset DVD. I can now watch the cartoons I want, how I want. I'm eager to try it on my favorite Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Wire DVDs as well as some Droopy and Tom & Jerry cartoons....

    Thanks again!

    Still having issues -

Using DVDFab Platinum many times produces more than one *.vob file, which produces a jerky, annoying pause during playback (when moving from one *.vob to the next).

I just want to have one episode play at a time how I want, when I want. It seems that the maximum size I can get for a *.vob file is 1 GB, which many times is not enough to cover an episode.

Question to 'bbanderic' - I downloaded and installed DVDShrink - how is that supposed to help me? What has been your experience?

Not if you use the right tool for the job. One way is to use DVDDecrypter set up in IFO Mode (not the default - you'll want Mode->IFO). Then Tools->Settings->IFO Mode->File Splitting->None. Choose the PGC you want. By default it always chooses the longest, but if that's not what you want, look around for the others. Give it a destination folder and Decrypt. With it set for no file splitting, if the size goes over a GB, it'll still be in just one VOB.

  7. Rip the whole disc then use Shrink to pick the title you want and rip it to your HD.
Use re-author mode. All titles should be listed seperate. Find yours and rip.

NiteLite is correct. Rip the whole DVD with DVD Decrypter in FILE mode first, then use Shrink in re-author mode.

    manono:
I previously installed DVDDecrypter and followed the guide (provided through another link on this site) about setting IFO mode and no file splitting. I remember getting the files, but the audio was always another language. It would be French, English with subtitles, but never what I wanted - just English. However, I will download, install and try it again.

    NiteLite & bbanderic:
It seems less than intuitive to have to rip the whole disc when most of these 'decrypters' (whether it is DVDFab, DVDShrink, or DVDDecrypter) will show each episode and allow you to check off the episode that you want. However, I will try using DVDDecrypter to rip in FILE mode, then use DVDShrink in "Re-Author" mode to grab the episode I want.

    All:

It seems I will have to try both ripping in IFO Mode (Manono) AND FILE Mode (Nitelite & bbanderic) to see what works. Do different methods work for different DVDs, making this a 'trial and error' situaton?

You're right, rather than rip the whole disc to the hard dive, you can use Shrink in re-author mode straight from the disc and check off the episode you want. Personally, I'm a firm believer in ripping to the HD first then re-author with Shrink. Most times you'll find it's quicker this way as well.
