I have bought an LG RH188S and initaily everything worked great.
However, for some reason, now whenever the DVD recorder is turned off, the TV picture goes black & white. I also have a freeview box, and both are connected via SCART leads.
    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

    Blame the French for SCart.

Find a way to connect the TV to the source separate from the DVD recorder or don't turn off the recorder.

The thing is, this definately did not happen when we first installed the DVD (2 months ago).
I've checked the SCART connections - they seem good.
Wondering if there is something in the DVD setup that has changed, but I havn't been able to find it yet.

Check to see that your connection uses the pal format instead of ntsc. Maybe your recorder does ntsc to pal conversion.

The recorder is a PAL system for the UK so I don't think that is the issue but thanks for the suggestion.
Like I say, this was working great out of the box - the black and white thing only started after a few weeks.
It's a pain because it's easy to forget to turn the DVD recorder off at night, and also we need to turn it on even if you only want to watch TV via the freeview box - otherwise you are stuck with B&W.

Check the output format settings for both the recorder and Freeview receiver. An S-Video signal into a composite video input will give a black and white picture. Ideally set the output format on both units to RGB if it is available. Most Freeview boxes will output either Composite or RGB, most DVD players will output S-Video as well. I suspect you've got the recorder set to S-Video.
