I shot this short (9 sec clip) with my Canon HV20. I encoded it to 720p @ 59.94 fps. It's in an AVI container that uses H.264 and mp3. I'm curious how easy it is for others to play the file for upload purposes.

Feel free to download this small (3 mb) clip and try to play it. MPC should play it without problems if you have a fast enough PC. Please report back if you can play it in full 59.94 fps or whatever. Do list PC spec for reference.

    Thanks,

    Media Player Classic
    CoreAVC
    2.4Ghz P4
    1GB RAM

Doesn't run at full speed. Looks like slow..slow..motion.

It might run at full speed at 640x352 dimensions

    I can play 23.97 and 29.97 h264 files at 1280x720 without a hiccup.

    This isn't a 1280x720p/59.94 camcorder.

Tell us what you think is being played back.

Plays back fine with Windows Media Player on my Vista computer, full screen. My HP laptop's a little slow so there are some pauses. Nice sound also. VLC just stalls out, too much processing.

    racer-x,

I usually have problems playing 720 x 480i/p h.264 on my fast (now outdated)
AMD XP 1800+ setup. And that's been my main video playstation for several
years now, and I use it for ever new test video. On this setup, large size
videos choke or studder or play a few frame, pause, and play, and pause ..

I have not tested on my new'er xp home system because I have not decided on
    installing the x.264 codec, yet.

And the one I have on my AMD xp 1800+ is an unknown version. I don't even
know if there *is* an official version. I just d/l'ed some time ago and began
    using it, since.

For a suggestion, I think you changed too many variables at once.

    Go step by step.

Note that x264 is only an encoder. You can use ffdshow to decode h.264 video.

Some results from a Core 2 Duo E6300 and and old 32MB, 2x AGP, Matrox Millennium:

MPlayer2 (Windows Media Player 6.4) + CoreAVC: smooth but slow motion, about 40 fps, A/V not in sync.

Media Player Classic + CoreAVC: smooth, about 40 fps, A/V not in sync

VLC + internal h.264 decoder : jerky but A/V in sync.

KMPlayer + internal h.264 decoder: smooth but slow, about 25 fps, A/V out of sync

The C2D is close to being fast enough to decode the video but the 2x AGP card is holding it back. The combo is fine for SD video.

I downloaded the clip and used my default player (VLC) to play the clip, it froze after a second, the sound played fine but the image froze. Media Player Classic played it perfectly though. I have FFdshow decode H264.

Well I guess it's a little too CPU intensive for the average user. It plays back Perfectly on my AMD 64x2 3800 desktop using Media Player Classic with Quicktime Alternative. I get the full 59.94 fps and audio is in perfect sync. It also plays fine on my laptop with an AMD XP3200. Full speed and audio in sync.

I guess I should stick to WMV. Bummer, because I really like H.264............

    P.S.
The footage is 1440 x 1080i that was split fields and resized to 1280 x 720p @ 59.94 fps via Avisynth.

    Get real!

I'm not trying to impress anyone..............I'm trying to see how easily other people can play that file, incase I want to use that format for upload purposes. If people here have a tough time playing it, then the general public has no chance.
