Hi everybody,
hope someone can help.
When I try to encode a DUAL AUDIO avi/xvid (with english and spanish audio tracks)
and ADD subtitles to that movie,
and chose Audiotrack 1 (the english one)
When I encode it,
I obtain a movie with both AUDIO and SUBTITLES out of sync.
If I play the movie in VLC, and change the track to listen the english audiotrack,
the sync is OK.
But in ffmpegx is out of sync,
with subtitles out of sync too.
Help me please!
Thnx!
Alina

Hi Alina,
We can help you a lot better if you provide more specific information. So let me ask you some questions:
1) What is the source material? Is it DVD?
2) Are the subtitles coming from the same source, or is it a separate file?
3) When you say "I play the movie in VLC..." are you talking about the source movie, or are you talking about one of the results of encoding? I assume that it's the former, but since this sentence appears right after you talk about an encoding result, it's not 100% clear.
4) Are you trying to produce a movie with two audio tracks and subtitles, or two versions of this movie in which each has one audio track and subtitles?
5) When you encode and encounter the problems you mention, what are you using to decode? (e.g., QT?)

hello,tomlee
im sorry i werent very specific.
my english is very limited.
I'll try with your questions!!
1-the source material es XVID-AVI dual audio spanish/english
2-subtitles are from a separated file (.srt)
3-Im talking about the source movie.
4-I'm trying to produce a movie with ONE of the audio tracks (the english one) and subtitles.
(by default, when i play the source movie in VLC, it plays in spanish until I set it up in english)
5-Im decoding with mplayer
Thnx, hope you can help me

Hi Alina,
Thanks for those clarifications. Your English is actually very good (and certainly much better than my Spanish!).
Does the sync problem appear right away, and stay constant? Or does the amount of sync error start small and get worse and worse as the movie plays? And in either case, approximately how large is the sync error at the end (and how long is the movie)?
If the framerate is chosen incorrectly, you can get large errors quickly. If the framerate is correct, you can still get subtle sync errors, but these are generally much smaller than those that come from framerate errors.
Verify that your source and target framerates are chosen equal.
If they are, and you are still having problems, it may be useful to post a screenshot of the settings you are using, as well as the contents of the Progress logfile (click on the "i" button as we mentioned in an earlier post). Somebody here can interpret its meaning, and possibly offer additional suggestions.

Hello Again!
-the subtitles sync problem appear right away (really little, like a second) but it get worse and worse as the movie plays...like...30 seconds?
-the audio sync problem it doesnt appear in the preview, just after i actually encode the movie so I will have to encode it again to tell you.
anyway, my settings are on the pict! hope it helps!
thank you so much

Hi Alina,
Although you've chosen a non-DVD compliant resolution, I don't see any obvious cause of bad sync in what you've specified. However, here are some things to try:
1) Try "decode with Quicktime" instead of mplayer (in your picture5). QT tends to do better keeping things in sync.
2) Select a truly DVD-compliant resolution. Although that shouldn't make any difference as far as sync is concerned, sometimes bugs are provoked by odd things. In any case, playback compatibility improves if you choose a standard resolution. See https://www.videohelp.com/dvd.
3) If you manage to get the subtitles and video in sync, but suffer from a persistent drift in audio sync, post back. I (or someone else) can walk you through some methods for audio resync (e.g., through the use of Audacity's "tempo change" feature)
Good luck!
