    Hey guys!

I have got an avi files that when it is played (before any conversions have taken place) the audio and video are out of sync by a couple of seconds.

These are the details of the file obtained from G-Spot

    Video is 344x260

    Code Name: XvID 1.0.3
    Length: 2:43:26
    Frames: 245,142
    KBPs: 965
    Frame/s: 25.000

    Audio

    Codec: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Other Info: 44100Hz 192 kb/s tot , Stereo

Is there any way i can get the audio and video to run in time with each other?

For playback you can adjust sync in real-time using Media Player Classic. For a permanent change you load it into virtualdubmod, click on Streams->StreamList, then right-click and choose Interleaving. Change the value in Audio Skew, in milliseconds, to adjust the audio. A positive number makes the audio start later, and negative number makes it start sooner. Once you have it lined up, save a new version out using Direct Stream Copy mode.

sweet i will try that and it sound easy to do! Could the same be done with a mpeg that has the same problems after convert it from avi? For example coverting an avi to mpeg to then be made into a dvd

EDIT: Sorry but which play button do i use within Virtualdubmod to see the changes i have made? I have forgotten as havent used it in a while! LOL!

Try also to find out if the MP3 audio is CBR or VBR. Gspot should tell you. That's very important because VBR audio often has sync issues. I wish the MP3 guys had never invented VBR because the playback problems aren't worth the marginal space savings it gives. If you have VBR audio, I'd suggest converting to WAV first in VirtualDubMod and if you must, convert the WAV back to CBR MP3 with something like BeSweet GUI. If you have VBR audio, you're quite possibly going to continue to have sync issues, even if you do what guns1inger suggests.

One reason I use VD Mod is that it will tell you about VBR audio immediately when you open the file. Gspot also has a small green 'VBR' indicator in the audio section that will alert you. Usually VBR audio causes problems when encoding to MPEG.

If you do convert to a WAV format with VDM, be sure to select 'Full processing' and 'No compression (PCM)' (The default). The 'Audio skew correction' is in milliseconds. 1000ms=1 second. Just use 'Preview' to check the results.
