A friend gave me his Quicktime video to work on (.mov files), but Final Cut won't accept the data. It says "unsupported frame rate" . Also, I noticed that the pixels are 640 x 480. How can i fix this? Thanks.

what is the frame rate of the video?
Check it by opening it in Quicktime and
    performing a (apple-i) Info command.
If it says 25fps for example, that is PAL.

you'll need to verify what your settings are in FCP.

By default, they are set for NTSC.
If you want to import PAL -framed video, you'll need to
switch the defaults to import the video, or
re-"hijack" it ( transcode it) to NTSC framerate in QT Pro
    for ingestion into FCP.

Actually it is in MPEG4 format, not MOV.
I opened it but it does not tell me the frame rate.
    Just the size: 640 x 480
    Codecs: Mpeg-4 video, AAC

aah....FCP will not accept Mpeg-4 muxed streams.
The data stream it accepts are DV (NTSC or PaL, Raw),
Quicktime .MOV, and depending upon the codec not
being a muxed codec ( any flavor of MPEG) some .avi
    files (FCP 5 or later).

You'll need to get a copy of MpegStreamclip, and open the file,
and save it out as a DV Stream ( Demux/Remux).
The DV stream filve will then be importable into FCP.
