I'm a truly a 'Newbie' when it comes to computer programming and Camcorders so forgive me if this question seems silly or if it's been asks before: I've brought a JVC Everio GZ-MG255 HDD Camcorder resently for a upcoming Vacation, now I know it is possible to download mpeg-2 video files that the camcorder made from the camcorder to a DVD Player/recorder or PC for viewing/copying, but I was wondering if there was anyway to upload Mpeg-2 video files (not originating from the Camera but from sources like the internet) to camcorder and play them on it like it was a MP4 player or similar? Or perhaps Transfer the files in question from the camera's hard drive to my standalone DVD Recorder (Panasonic DMR-ES15)?

I have tried to copy such files to the Camcorder's Hard drive folder for Video files and also change the files' extentsion (.Mpg,Mpg2,.Mod, etc.), but the files still do not appear in the video index menu. Is there a method in solving this or was this simply that the Camcorder wasn't program to recognize files it didn't make?

Thanks in advance for any imput and sorry again if this seems like a silly question.

  2. It probably doesn't recognize the video format. What format does this camcorder use DV or DVD. You can tell from the files you transfer from it, if it creates IFO and VOB files, then it's a DVD recorder. In that case you'll need to author a DVD from your MPG files...

I did discover that the demo file in the extmov is that of a VOB format with a .MPG extenstion, but ever after reformatting the files to the same it still wouldn't show up. I'll keep trying unless I find out it's a lost cost with this model.

    Thanks for the advice anyhow.

The files would most likely need to be in the exact format and utilize the exact codec as the camera....which I doubt any file you find elsewhere will match.
