When I try to view web-based videos (such as from CNN, etc.), I can't see them: I get a green screen where the video should be but I can hear the audio. This only started happening within the past week or so. Don't know if it was the result of any settings or security changes I may have made in IE7. Any ideas?

Sounds like corrupted codecs. You can download and install the generic WMP codec pack from M$. However, there are many types of webpage video streams (java, flash, flv). It would be handy to know exactly what type you are having trouble viewing.
Per the help page at CNN, you need WMP and the WMV 9 codecs. So the default codec pack should solve the issue.Google is your Friend -
Most flash web based videos are flash based vids. try installin or reinstalling adobe flash player.
