Looking for something that has good quality for 480p. Can S-video record in 480p?

No. There is no 480p in standard definition broadcast video. The best you'll be able to do is capture 480i then inverse telecine or deinterlace.

Would the Pyro AV Link be my best choice for the price range to capture xbox 360 footage at 480i?

Many ways to capture 480i. The Pyro would be a good choice but generates large files (DV format @ ~13GB/hr.)

  5. If you have a DV or D8 camcorder you might be able to use it to record or "passthrough" to a firewire port. That would be similar to using the Pyro or an Canopus ADVC 100.

A $50 "raw" capture card can do as well but will require more CPU power and be more prone to dropped frames.

A hardware MPEG encoder like the Hauppauge WinTV PVR series will work if you don't plan on extensive filtering or editing.

There is such a capture card that does this (have been looking for it for awhile... but no luck). It can capture: 480i/480p/1080i - It's the Earthsoft PV3 (no logner for sale from what I understand)

Looking at this capture card, it appears to only take video inputs through D-Terminals.
At least, by the pictures supplied by that translated site.
