  3. well i did try google b4 coming here but cannot find a site to install this codec as when i try to use videolan to play this movie all i get is audio but no video just a grey screen

  6. Start -> All Programs -> Ffdshow -> Video Decoder Configuration -> Codec -> MS Video 1 -> Libavcodec

    Also in the VFW decoder config.

  7. well just checked all of that and its same as you put here

    but I still cannot view video using VLC media player just get audio with just a grey screen no picture

  8. That seems to be a problem with VLC. I can play them in several other media players -- WMP, Mplayer2, MPC, KMPlayer. Windows ships with Microsoft Video 1 codecs.

    VLC uses its own (internal) codecs, and doesn't rely on the codecs (or DirectShow filters, etc.) installed on a system, so it won't be able to take advantage of ffdshow. As jagabo suggested, you can try one of the other players.

    Are you using the current version of VLC, by the way?
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

    Most of ffdshow's decoders come from libavcodec which VLC also uses, so it is a little odd. Still VLC always used to be behind in terms of syncing with ffmpeg. How does it play in mplayer or even ffplay?
