I am currently (trying) to use DVD Architect 3. I just recorded something from my DVR to a DVD+RW without chapters with the intention of adding my own chapters using DVDA. When I go to start a new project, I choose "Single Movie" and "Video_TS." I get the following message that does not allow me to go any further: "The selected file is not of the required type." In general, I know what that sentence means, but technically, what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for your feedback,

Did you record in DVD mode or VR mode ?
Have you tried using VOB2MPG to extract the mpeg stream from your disc for importing into DVDA ? (Note : you will have to copy the contents to your HDD to do this, VOB2MPG doesn't seem to like extracting from optical discs)

I recorded in VR mode. I'm not aware of what VOB2MPG is, so the answer is: no, I haven't tried that.

I don't believe DVDA will accept the output from VR mode directly. Very little will. VR mode is really designed to allow you to edit on your DVD recorder, and isn't much use for anything else. You will have to find a way to extract the contents to something DVDA likes, either a program stream or elementary streams. DVD Decrypter might be able to do this.

Maybe I need to re-record it in video mode. DVD Decrypter didn't to the trick and neither did vob2mpg.

You have to transfer your VRO file to your PC and change the extension to MPG.
I do this often and DVD Architect never complained.

When you say "transfer," do you mean "rip?" I ripped the VR mode recording using DVD Decrypter. I tried to rename the file using an MPG extension with no luck. How did you do this? I saw a few past posts and read them, and I tried to follow what they were doing, also, with no luck. Another thing I did was use VOB2MPG and that didn't work. How is it that you are able to change the file to an MPG and have it work with DVD Architect?

    Thanks,

When I say transfer, I mean a simple Copy and Paste functions. Copy from your disk and paste to a folder on your PC.

It has nothing to do with "luck".

If you still encounter troubles, please describe what is a file structure on a disc from your recorder and do you let your recorder to finalize a disc.

Okay -- I converted the file to MPG -- thanks for your help on that link. I still cannot get DVD Architect to accept it.

To answer the other questions, I did not finalize the disc. Is that why I cannot get DVDA to work?

I don't know if this matters, but keep in mind that I am using DVDA 3.

    Thanks,

Make sure you have the latest version of DVD Architect 3 (3c is the current version). also, realise that changing the extension to mpg does not make it an mpg file. It is similar to an mpg, but contains extra data. This may be enough to throw DVD Architect off. You ideally need to demux the video and audio streams from your VRO files and go from there.

    I use DVDA 2.
I believe that DVDA 4b is the current version.
Simple renaming of VRO to mpg, works for me. Recordings are made on LG DVD recorder and I always finalize.
Are you sure that you have renamed VRO file to mpg?

4b is the latest version of DVD Architect, but it is a paid upgrade from 3 to 4. 3c is the current version of DVDA 3.
