  1. Hi everyone need help again....

Is there any way to stop a particular usb device from appearing in the 'Safely Remove Hardware' list? I have a usb wireless adapter in my pc which needs to stay there all the time. When I plug in one of my usb sticks then go to remove it safely, I keep accidentally disconnecting the wireless adaptor by mistake (it's at the top of the list). Can I stop that one specific device from being listed or am I just gonna have to be more careful...?

    Thanks!

I assume USB devices are by definition removable, so there's probably no way to kill just that notification and not the others. You may able to change the device's position on the list. USB devices are likely assigned drive letters by the OS in the order in which they are installed or 'seen' by the OS, usually D - Z, depending on how many drives or devices you have.

Probably a plug in USB drive will be later on the list. It may be possible to change the start up order for the USB devices if they are all plugged in before you boot. But I don't know how.

I had somewhat the opposite problem. My SATA boot drive was showing up on that list. It's not removable. But that was a problem with the SATA controller.

EDIT: I did find this payware program that might do what you need: http://www.safelyremove.com/

Good recommendation, Redwudz. I've been using the "Safely Remove" program for about a year now and have been very happy with it.

You can right-click on a device in its window and then click on "Don't show this item in the display window" and you won't see the device again unless you decide to restore it to the list later. Or you can just give the device a more descriptive name, use hot-keys to disconnect, etc.

30-day trial. $15 to keep. Free upgrades.

I am not a spammer, just a satisfied customer.

  4. Thanks for the software recommendation but I was hoping there'd be something built into xp. I think I'll just have to be extra careful rather than shell out 15 dollars.......
